Horde is an alien with the power to Spawn. Each time it draws a card from the deck or retrieves a ship from the warp, it adds a horde token to any of its colonies. Horde tokens are treated exactly like ships of its color, except that they are discarded from the game if they are sent to the warp, captured or removed from the game.

CA | You have the power to Spawn. Each time you draw a card or retrieve a ship from the warp, use this power. Add a horde token to one of your colonies. Treat horde tokens as ships under your control, but discard them if sent to the warp, removed from the game, or captured by another player. if you lose this power, horde tokens remain until discarded. Your power cannot be stolen or copied through any means. |
A little-known race from a Cosmic backwater, the horde have only one real skill - spawning. Leave a Horde alone in a room for a minute, and you'll return to find two Hordes avidly chatting with each other. Leave them in your house for an afternoon, and you'll return home to find that they've taken over your city - at which point, if you're lucky, you'll have just enough time to flee the planet before they claim it in the name of the Horde race. |
Flare[]
Wild: Add one ship of an unused player color to one of your colonies during your regroup phase. It is treated as an extra ship of your color but is removed from the game if it goes to the warp, is captured, or is on a planet without one of your normal ships.
Super: When you would gain tokens, gain twice that many instead. (The Cosmodex notes that this effect applies for the duration of the encounter in which the flare is played, rather than just being applied to only the instance of gaining tokens that triggers the playing of this flare. This is not stated in the FAQ, but seems like this is the intention, given that Horde's power only spawns one token at a time and thus this flare would only cause Horde to gain one extra token per encounter.)
Strategy[]
Strengths | Weaknesses |
---|---|
Can easily outnumber enemy ships | Must draw cards to be effective |
As Horde[]
Horde generally needs to draw cards or retrieve ships continuously in order to fully utilize its ability; being a defensive ally helps accomplish this task, as does using up its cards in order to draw a new hand. Horde shouldn't hesitate to lose its non-token ships, as it will more than make up for its loss when it gains them back.
Horde shouldn't hesitate to use Mobius Tubes or a Rift either, as it will effectively gain twice as many ships in the form of tokens.
Notes[]
The 2018 FAQ states that the line "each time you draw a card" should instead read "each time you draw a card from the cosmic deck." This clarifies that Horde does not get horde tokens when it draws from the reward deck (or the destiny deck, the technology deck, etc.).
